Fall Haul- BTS

Maybe it’s just from my summer months interning at a teen magazine, but this year I’ve been all about getting into the back-to-school spirit. Whether your in high school, college, or just a savvy fall shopper, it seems like fall is the time to re-vamp the wardrobe and indulge in some trendy essentials. Seriously though, what fun is a new school year without a new pair of jeans?!

Head to Heels 8/17

At long last, felt like blogging today so I drudged up this summery outfit of the day from July 4th. We hadn’t had time to go out and shoot somewhere cool, so I settled for a make-shift apartment pics in order to show off some unique new pieces worn for a night out with fireworks! Continue reading

I think I’m finally at a point in my life where I understand the healthy middle-ground in style. Much of my high school, and even college career has been made up of polar opposites. The difference between casual and dressy outfits meant wearing either yoga pants and T-shirts or sky-high going out heels and stuffy blazers. But working a full time job has helped me to truly understand the art of business casual done right. This summer, one of my favorite ways to add polish to a daytime look is with strappy heeled sandals. It seems that everyone I know is wearing this fun yet adaptable heel- and why not? They’re (relatively) comfy, and go with just about anything from summer shorts to sophisticated max dresses. The key is a classic shape, infused with trendy variations like lucite and bright colors. I’ve included here some of my favorite picks in stores now and was surprised by how reasonable it is to invest in the sandal craze. Which one would you wear?

Living on the edge of Tibeca means a walkable distance to the Hudson. Sail boats, mini golf, lounge chairs, and telescopes on the dock… this local is perfect for watching a summer sunset and just screams JCrew when it comes to style! So when I found these slightly nautical looking polka dot pants at Forever 21 last week, I knew exactly where to wear them. But I think the preppy ensemble would be perfect for work as well.

Lately, I’ve been accumulating mass amounts of printed floral dresses. I daresay they are my favorite article of clothing for day-to-day wear. Florals are the epitome of femininity but, depending on the type of print, have the ability to look retro and modern at the same time. Dress them up, dress them down- these easy pieces add flirty flare to any spring or summer outfit. Here, I decided to pair more masculine pieces (oversize blazer and sneakers) with the dress to give it a cool yet casual vibe. Perfect for a low key workplace or an afternoon lunch date.

Accessories are tricky. They can make or break an outfit at the drop of a hat (or chunky bangle), but they also have amazing transformative power. I’m a big fan of versatility when it comes to work outfits, and I believe that a few accessory swaps can totally change a work day outfit into a stylish little night out ensemble. Check out what I did here with a plain white peplum top and pencil skirt. Uptown to Downtown in a flash!

I love that warm weather is a time for whimsical outfits. Festival wear, picnic dresses, floral for June weddings… Although work has me focusing on chic business casual this summer, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try out a more etherial look, inspired by  the beautiful purple flower bushes growing in our garden.

Head to Heels 5/24

It’s that wonderful time of year when college students flock home for the “summer” holidays and get to enjoy a few quick weeks before the rest of the world joins us for vacation. So while my sister and I take a week-day to do some window shopping in Pittsburgh, I’m test driving some of my ready-for-work separates before the internship. I’ve found that a lot of black and white prints made their way to my closet this season, so I’m pairing them with neutral tones then adding pops of color like these beloved rose-toned sunnies and suede wedges.
